To Rapidshare Management,

As a long time user of your online file hosting service, I am disappointed to see some of the changes you have recently made. While you did increase your bandwidth and servers, allowing us to maintain fast download speeds, and a large amount of online storage, many of us are unhappy to see that you have downgraded our monthly download limit by a substantial amount, and at the same time premium account prices have remained the same. How can you justify a substantial decrease in your services while keeping prices the same?

The only reason I could think of that would bring about this change is due to a high number of new users signing up for your services, which would increase the amount of bandwidth used. However, as I have stated, not too long ago you boasted on your website that you had increased your bandwidth and servers for this very reason. So with that, I cannot figure out why you have turned what used to be the best online file hosting service into somewhat of a joke now.

http://I, along with thousands of RS.com users, feel that if you continue to provide a subpar service at the same price as before, we will begin to look for a new online file host that won’t make us feel like we are wasting our money.

I hope this email helps you to rethink your latest business strategy.

Yours sincerely,

a disappointed Rapidshare user.

Additional Info:

I'm sure most of you are aware of the recent changes made by Rapidshare.com. If you are not, then basically what you need to know is they are decreasing your download limits substantially, while keeping prices the same as the were. Not good, I'm sure you agree.

Because of this, we at SinlessLinks have decided that all Rapidshare.com users make a stand, and let them know we are not happy with their recent changes, and will fight for them to make it right again. To help with this, we have put together a template email that we are encouraging everyone to send. So please copy and paste the email above to support@rapidshare.com

    Thanks and Thanks again!

First for getting us aware of it and second for taking the lead in fighting for a good cause.

But since when have they decreased and with how much?
Myself am like, i think 98% off us all and do not read the small letters and press "OK" without reading, but is there someone of the other 2% who has?
And is it legaly ok to decrease your contract, that in fact , is paid for in advance?

Why not bringing it further then only this site? Looks like a problem other site, also will have to deal with.
With your permission, i could copy your text and place them on several other sites that use mainly rapidshare?

    regards,
    roppy

  2. BigCal  --  Nov 9, 08 @ 13:37
They are decreasing the download limit from 10GB a day to a little over 1GB.

And feel free to spread this around, the more people see it and use it, the better! :)

  3. JG  --  Nov 9, 08 @ 13:51
Email Sent. Thanks for making me aware of this as I am just now starting a d/l of 12 GB Wii isos.

  4. roppy  --  Nov 9, 08 @ 16:51

Bastards, its like having paid for a "A" class h@@ker, which gets replaced after abt 10 minutes..............

    by her mom.

My idea too, the more, the marrier.

  5. PJK  --  Nov 9, 08 @ 17:33
I will still be credited with 10gb per day until Jan 1 2009, when I have to renew my 3 monthly subs.
So when is this decrease taking place, exactly?

But if this is the case, then there are plenty more server services around, like megaupload ot sendshare or depositfiles, maybe it's time to choose where you are going to invest your money and maybe people will follow.

But when I heard the news I thought Ouch!! but I suppose that to keep this service, we might have to grin and bare it for now.

  6. BigCal  --  Nov 9, 08 @ 18:44
@PJK: The decrease takes place immediately for new users now, and will go into effect for current premium members once they renew their account.

We are hoping that if enough people complain to RS about this, then they will change for the better, and we won't have to switch. If nothing happens, then we will most likely have to seriously look into the pros and cons of other file hosting sites to make the switch to.

  7. smartie614  --  Nov 9, 08 @ 23:25
Great work BigCal. I've already sent my complaint email to RapidShare, but I believe that this template will help so much more. It makes it so easy for everybody to complain with minimal effort. In my opinion; the more people that complain and threaten to move file-hosting sites, the more likely it is that RapidShare will take our criticisms on board and act on them.

I really hope that they do take note. I don't much fancy moving sites and fragmenting the community, because the chances are that not everybody will choose to move to the same filehosting site. This would mean less uploaders and as a result less variety in the files that are available for downloading.

I urge everybody who hasn't already done so to copy this template - personalize it if possible - and send it on to RapidShare. Like I've already said: the more emails we send, the more likely it becomes that some form of action will be taken to increase our download limits again.

(P.S. @staff: Is there any chance that this post could be placed at the top of the home page of the site for a while to make sure that everybody notices it?)

  8. juraj  --  Nov 10, 08 @ 09:00
Thanks for the info, complaint mail sent to RS.com.

  9. PJK  --  Nov 11, 08 @ 16:11
Of course, it would have a bigger impact if you were to properly translate the complaint into german or french due to were Rapidshare are. Has anyone thought of that?

  10. osman  --  Nov 14, 08 @ 16:04
the download limit is ONLY 2.7 GB now !!!
i will never buy again the preium account from rapidshare.
its is not cheap and i dont like that !!!

  11. roppy  --  Nov 18, 08 @ 19:05
Same happened here ! My account that was paid for uptill April 2009 is decreased in till 2,66!!

    Thats the bloody limit!

But strangely enough it happened after i send them the e-mail. Anybody same experience but before sending the e-mail or all afterwards also?

This is gonna be the end of rapishare, its gonna kill them. Are they that blind at management?
And how dare they complaint abt people cracking their service?
    GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND!

  12. Fletch  --  Nov 20, 08 @ 00:28
Well done for this m8, i didn't realise either, maybe with this and the whole rapidshare losing that court case that they were shown not to have been doing enough to stop piracy and have now been removing as much as they can and removing links that we should all start thinking about moving to megaupload or something like that.

  13. xizel  --  Nov 20, 08 @ 03:34
welll that will be back to torrents for me

  14. Zwitterion  --  Nov 20, 08 @ 19:47
I've sent them an email and received a generic reply that some people have received...

  15. ShineDesign  --  Nov 20, 08 @ 20:56
    This is shame!
RS used to be one of the best filehosting services...
I've sent complaint. I'm not happy to :(

  16. BigCal  --  Nov 25, 08 @ 20:35
FINALLY got a reply from them:

    Hello,

The recent system updates allow us to offer our customers a strong and fully
functional service. In light of our recent improvements to our system, we
should have actually increased our prices, instead we have found a solution
that is fair for all users. Calculations have shown that the average user
downloads less than 2.66 GB per day. It is however the frequent users that go
beyond the scope of the average downloading and hardly cover the cost invested
    by us.
As a result we came to the conclusion that we need to treat everybody the
same. By limiting the daily download capacity to 2.66 GB and offering
additional download capacity by purchasing and transferring TrafficShare to
added download capacity, we have finally found a fair solution, by which our
    prices fit every users need.
RapidShare continues to be an innovative platform that leaves no user at a
    price disadvantage.
We see that the recent upgrades may seem unkind to some users. Please note
however that the changes serve the overall RapidShare users and is by far a
    greater benefit than disadvantage.

Of course we have kept our long term customers in mind, therefore all Premium
Accounts created prior to October 23, 2008, have been credited with 50GB of
TrafficShare. In addition to this, these Accounts will continue to receive
10GB of daily download traffic, until expiration of the Account. At point of
Account extension, these Accounts will be adapted to the new traffic
    regulation.

We thank you for your feedback. It is your feedback that allows us to
continuously improve our service and relationships to all of our users.

If you have any further questions regarding our TrafficShare or RapidPoints
conversions services, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

    Best regards,

    Support Team

  17. djdat  --  Nov 25, 08 @ 20:53
So basically what they are saying is we can have 50gb of trafficshare (which is direct downloads) So that OTHER people benefit from our accounts for free, But we get a measly 2.7gb a day? Are they f*****g serious? And BigCal, I also thought the very same thing you've put in that email, Boasting about server upgrades and s**t, It's all talk. I don't think they did a thing and the new user rush is the proof because now their servers are too busy for their very same network they had in the first place. I'm off to go open a megaupload account ;)

  18. Zwitterion  --  Nov 26, 08 @ 00:17
True, but TrafficShare also kicks in when you exceed the 2.66GB/day capacity. There was this day I went on a downloading spree, ended up downloading about 12Gigs worth of content in one day, and my Traffic Share went from 55Gb to 45Gb...

Hopefully when the staff do decide on switching over to a different file host or something you guys can give me a heads up so that I can switch over to that host a little earlier and start uploading again.

  19. willi  --  Nov 26, 08 @ 14:04
Today the traffic is very low, i can't understand it. for a small .rar file, like 80 MB, i've to wait more than 20 Min. and this with a permium account?????!!!

i want the money back, i've giving them, for a premioum account more than 3 month!!!

i'm not amused, how rapidshare changes they rules every week!

  20. Paola  --  Dec 1, 08 @ 02:48
Concerning Rapidshare a friend of mine receiveid this email:

    =====================================================
Your RapidShare account is being terminated due to violating the terms of service. Illegal downloads are being hosted on our servers, voiding our terms of
service. We have detected and deleted these files, and are now in the process of terminating accounts that have downloaded or stored these files. This is to
ensure that more illegal content does not appear on our servers. We do not support or encourage the usage of illegal programs, music, or other media. The
terminated account will appear on Rapidshare servers for 2-3 days but you will not be granted access to it. The login data for the terminated account is:
    =====================================================

And he dont have anything illegal hosted on RS, that means that if u download some "illegal" content from someone from now on u prolly lose your account.

  21. Chopper  --  Dec 1, 08 @ 13:09
Re Paola's comment. I've seen that email going round a bit recently. It isn't from RS, it's a phishing scam. Usually by the time someone gets the email they'll find their account password, email address etc has been changed. Contact RS right away if you get that email and try to get logged in to change your password etc yourself if you can. Security lock helps with this kind of thing.
Again that email does NOT come from RS.

  22. moddedwii  --  Dec 4, 08 @ 21:16
The new layout of rapidshare itself sucks. I do not even login to rapidshare anymore i just use the rapidshare tool to upload files and copy links from.

Only reason i keep my account there is that i can keep getting free months with the points i collect from people downloading my files :).

  23. j  --  Dec 7, 08 @ 09:49
    thanks for the mail.

  24. AJ  --  Dec 11, 08 @ 17:23
Those bastards... looks like with such huge volume on their servers, they thought they can rule the world with whatever rules they want... nice work BigCal, else we wont even be noticing it at this stage... lets make this a large campaign... Please, allow us to also post this mail at other forums so that a large number of mails can reach those fools...

  25. BigCal  --  Dec 11, 08 @ 18:13
@AJ, please feel free to post the email template anywhere you like (same goes for everyone else lol). The more places it shows up, the more chance we have of RS taking notice of how unhappy we are, and they will hopefully change for the better.

  26. almozayaf  --  Dec 12, 08 @ 19:49
    i send to

  27. mcdonaldold1  --  Dec 16, 08 @ 06:05
I have sent several emails to complain about the incredible decrease. The argument that most users do not use that much does not hold water. What's the big deal if no one is hardly using the larger amt?
About a year and a half I opened a prem acct. The deal was 5GB a day I think. Then they increased it to 10GB a day-Yea! And now they go to 2.6GB????? This right in the middle of a worldwide financial crisis? You would think they would be offering more-not less.
Anyway-They say they are having a large number of inquiries right now and it will take some time to get to my email. You see people ARE complaining-For one thing they never really went public with what they were going to do. Snakes. Sneaky.

  28. Stacey  --  Dec 20, 08 @ 21:45
I had 2 accounts with RS and have closed out one and am in the process of transferring my files to MU and closing out the other. I found the pricing better and the services offered much better. As far as limits I cannot even find any dl limits for MU premium users so I don't think there are any. They also have 1TB of storage space and the speeds are much better. All in all although RS has more files hosted it seems, MU offers all around better services. I am not playing this back and forth with RS with the BS excuses they are using. My money is better spent somewhere else.

  29. neil  --  Dec 22, 08 @ 07:05
screw em lets make a switch.
need an alternative that works well with a D/L manager like 0get/flash get.

  30. gibby  --  Jan 17, 09 @ 20:30
This is really phony and hurt lots of costumers all over the world. Instead of being happy people like me renew my account and trusted you for what to be slapped on my face. I am looking for some other hosting services to do my business with. If there is a way to get a refund I would appreciated. You have my e-mail you can increase it back and that is what I am expecting.

  31. emmanuel  --  Feb 27, 09 @ 04:55
I agree with you all. And now Rapidshare has invented a new method of conning people. If you use any Download accelerator (DAP, IDM etc) to download files hosted on RS, your Download Traffic will decrease FASTER than if you download normally. Since Download accelerators open connect using multiple ports, RS will decrease your Dwonload traffic by a multiple of the number of ports. e.g if you download a 10MB file using IDM which normally creates 8 ports, your Download traffic will decrease by 10 x 8 =80MB!!!!

Now this truly is fraud because RS claim that one of the advantages of having a PREMIUM account is that it SUPPORTS Download accelerator, when it clearly doesn't. SO everyone who thinks that their Download Traffic is finishing up faster than it should, this it the reason.

  32. Zwitterion  --  Feb 27, 09 @ 08:51
Can anyone verify what emmanuel commented was true?

This is all I can find from Rapidshare's FAQ site:

Download Managers cause additional data traffic, e.g. if you download a large file in parallel parts, as opposed to downloading the whole file at once. This results in more data traffic than corresponds to the size of the file. The more such parallel streams are initiated, the more additional traffic is generated. RapidShare accurately logs the data traffic that leaves our own network.

But they didn't really say how much more traffic does it generate.

  33. BobSenior  --  Mar 10, 09 @ 12:14
I haven't read through all the above comments so apologies if you've already answered this question but if we buy the 100gb(or more) download package, do we have to keep buying it alongside the usual premium account payments or is it just a one off payment?

  34. BobSenior  --  Mar 14, 09 @ 14:40
K I just checked with the Rapidshare Support Team and they said:

'Kindly note that your TrafficShare Volume will not expire if you extend your existing account.
Transfer of RapidPoints or TrafficShare to another account is not possible'

So its only a one-off payment which isn't to bad considering. Its bad they originally downgraded it in the 1st place, but I'm willing to pay as a one-off.

  35. BobSenior  --  Mar 18, 09 @ 12:06
O and additionally, you probably already know this but just to make sure, if you don't use the daily download amount (2.7gb) it will simply be added to the next days download limit, so you don't have to worry about losing a day!

  36. Brewkakke  --  Apr 5, 09 @ 03:34
Why don't you guys use Mediafire which is a million times better?

  37. Shit never ends  --  Apr 10, 09 @ 23:47
Prob is no one has rapidshare content. Mega has s***.

Traffic Share looks like the Usenet pay-for-play scheme, where you pay for a certain amount of bytes downloaded. I use this for Usenet ever since my a****** providers got rid of Usenet. Rapidshare combines that concept and file sharing. Whoop de do, it's all means a ten dollar price increase, or more, for a decent dl limit.

Oh yeah, Mediafire will report logs of uploaders if prodded. Be careful and do research before you randomly upload.

  38. Riverbendrusty  --  Jul 2, 09 @ 01:34
I used To like RS but now im more into megaupload.
RS Premium Account Give 500GB online storage when megaupload give u that free.

Its like whatever U get for a premium account on rapidshare megaupload give it free

    MEGAUPLOAD IS WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY Better
